Course 3 - Day 4 Final Cake Project

We also ended our last day in Course 3 with a final cake project. This course involves putting together a tier or stack cake. The class also learned how to make fondant bows, curlicues, fondant rose and cutouts. The final cakes included a mix of everything. The tier cake used pillars which were included in the Course 3 kit. The stacked cake, on the other hand involved adding support (using dowels), for safe transport of the cake. While the class was busy putting their cakes together, I was busy going around just enjoying the smell of the cakes underneath those fondants. One cake even had fresh strawberries in the filling, Hmmm... Yummy cake + wonderful presentation = priceless! Some added a variety of flavor to the fondant. Some had to take their cakes home to finish. But take a look...

Course 1 - Day 4 - Final Cake Project

Okay, you guys can finally relax. It was a fun class, was it not? I try to make the classes as laid back, fun and exciting as possible. For their final cake, everyone created a variety of designs incorporating everything they learned from the course, and then some. Some even dedicated their work to their special someone. How sweet! Most people went for the Wilton Rose design for their final cakes, and I actually felt so proud. I appreciate very much all the effort you put in creating your cakes, especially your final cake project. I'm so excited and can't wait to get you started with sugar flowers in Course 2. Good job guys, and see you in Course 2. Check out the cakes...

March 2009 Cake Decorating Class - Course 3 - 2nd Day Cakes

The second day of Course 3 involves lots of details. In just 2 hours, the class learned how to make the Fondant Rose and leaves, fondant bow, curlicues, and cut-outs. The students also learned how to cover a cake with fondant and they all brought square cakes to cover. Look at the following....

March 2009 Cake Decorating Course 1 2nd Day Cake Projects

The class had a wonderful time learning the first few tricks in cake decorating basics like preparing the buttercream icing, coloring, torte, level and ice their cakes. In addition, they also learned to decorate using star fill-in, star and shell borders, lines, zigzag, writing, outlining and piping gel transfer. They applied all these tips which made their cakes show beautifully. Some finished their cakes that night, others had to take theirs home to finish. See the beautiful cakes below...

Wilton Cake Decorating Classes 2009 - Federal Way

Hello everyone. I've been wanting to create a blog where I can share ideas, questions, pictures and other sweet stuff about my students' cake projects. This blog will help us gather fun ideas, answers or even just comments about things related to our cake projects or the classes I teach at Michael's in Federal Way.

I started 2009 with such a fun class in Course 1 Basic Cake Decorating in January. We had a blast when we were in Course 2 - Flowers and Borders. They have now moved on to Course 3 - Fondant and Tiered Cakes and I am so excited to see the final cakes we will have for Course 3 this month.

Also, I have just started a big group in Course 1 and we have a wide array of cake-decorating experiences. I am likewise thrilled to see what kind of cakes we will be making next week on our 2nd day.

We always have Wilton cake decorating classes at Michael's every month. For the month of April 2009, there is a promotion of 50% discount towards the course fee. Plus, if the student contacts me before signing up, I can hand him or her a bounce-in coupon that is worth $5 off the cost of the class. The classes are always fun and very relaxed. Check out this link for the classes at Michael's http://www.michaels.com/art/online/static?page=wilton_cake_decorating.

In the meantime, I will keep you posted with the latest from my classes....
